Lefkas
With an area of 356 km2 and a coastline stretching for 117k, Lefkada is a large island yet easy to explore. It also has the advantage of being connected to mainland Greece by road. In the north lies the main town and the wonderful lagoon; in the south, the windsurfers’ paradise of Vassiliki and Cape Lefkatas, both of which are must-visits. On the west coast you will find acclaimed exotic beaches, in particular Porto Katsiki and Egremeni, which again should not be missed. The east coast, meanwhile, features stunning bays such as Nydri and Vlycho, lush vegetation, tiny islets and fjord-like inlets that attract every type of water craft. Away from the beaches, in the mountainous interior, there are picturesque villages with hospitable residents, including Eglouvi, famous for its lentils, and Karya, known far and wide for its exquisite embroidery. And don’t forget… up in the mountains a map is necessary!
