Walking tour Asklipio

Asklipio

The
village of Asklipio enchants the visitors with its white
houses and narrow lanes. The wonderful frescoes in the church of Mary’s passing
away are absolute jewels. This three-hour walk leads there along pebble path,
offers a broad panorama view of the sea on the way back.

Program

The starting point of the tour is shortly
before Gennadi and after the big beach hotels of Kiotari.
A sandy path leads away from the street into the interior of the island. The
path continues slightly uphill, crossing the dry stream bed of the river Katachra
which is leading us to the village of Asklipio. After walking beneath the bell tower
you come to the famouse chapel Kimissi ti Theotokou. The chapel is dedicated to Mary’s
Ascension to Heaven or Passing Away and has the most beautiful frescoes on
Rhodes. We will continue walking to the square before walking up to the
fortress’ ruins, which are left over from the Order of Saint John. There we
will enjoy a beautiful view over the land and sea before walking back towards
the sea coming out in the village of Kiotari. Distance of the tour is 9 km and the
approximate duration 3 hours. Dress code: Relaxed, comfortable/non slippery
closed walking shoes.
