Samaria Gorge hiking tour

Samaria Gorge is the longest gorge in Europe with 18 km
length. Located in the prefecture of Chania, the White Mountains, is one of the
most appealing attractions of Crete. The gorge begins Xyloskalo (altitude 1227
m) in plateau Omalou and ends in southern Crete, Agia Roumeli.

You will find that the flora and fauna of the National Park of Samaria is
very rich and is protected by international conventions. It is estimated that
there are about 450 unique plant species. Is there a law that forbids to remove
anything from the gorge, even if it is a flower, and this in order to protect
the ecosystem of Samaria.

In the gorge can admire the giant pines and cypresses, and generally beauty
of forests.

 Also, it is very likely to be
encountered by hikers in the middle of the gorge the famous wild goats of Crete
or otherwise called the ‘ibex’.

There are several places in the canyon, many toilets and taps for guest
convenience. After exiting the National Park, is again check the tickets to
ensure that no visitor is not trapped in the canyon for any reason.

The total journey time is calculated at around 4-8 hours. The average is
about 6 hours. After exiting the canyon meets Agia Roumeli where you can swim
in the Libyan Sea.
The entrance to Samaria permitted for reasons of weather conditions from May to
end of October.
